Standard certificate holders, who have taught at any time in the public school during the past five years, please do the following:
Please enter professional development and submit your Statement of Assurance online at Educator Certification System (ECS). Once your Statement of Assurance has been approved, please do one of the following options:

For further information on the different professional development activities for renewal, click on the options below. Please note that only one activity must be met:
Advanced Degree
National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification process
Eight semester hours of graduate-level coursework
Subsequent Illinois certificate or endorsement
Requirements for becoming NCLB "highly Qualified" in another teaching area
Four semester hours of approved graduate-level coursework in either:
Self-assessment
NBPTS certification process
Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs)/ Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Standard certificate holders who are renewing and have not taught in a public school during the previous five years, please use the following steps to renew:
If you did not work all five years as a teacher, please file for exemption for your teaching status on Educator Certification System.
Note: we are no longer required to stamp the back of the certificates, but will do so upon request. All your offical records will be at Educator Certification System. Please print your records from the web site for your future reference.
Maintain the evidence of completion for the professional development activity or activities completed in preparation for the possibility of a random audit.
