TRUANCY OUTREACH

The truancy program is ongoing program to assist schools within our serving region in assisting and promoting student attendance.  The DeWitt, Livingston, Logan, & McLean County truancy outreach specialists work aggressively with schools and parents to intervene early and resolve school attendance issues.  Our emphasis is on unexcused absences, excessive total absences, and tardiness, as it interferes with the learning process of the student. Partnerships among the Regional Office of Education #17, the State’s Attorney’s Office, Court Services, and Social Agencies serve the communities in resolution of school attendance issues on a case-by-case basis.

HOMELESS OUTREACH

This program is designed to meet the educational and personal growth needs of students who are considered homeless, as defined by McKinney-Vento Homeless Act.  The purpose of this is to ensure children and youth who are homeless have an opportunity to meet the same standards that all children are held to.  This is done by providing support to local school district liaisons to provide services and activities to improve the identification of homeless children and youth (including preschool-aged homeless children) and enable such children and youth to enroll in, attend, and succeed in school, including, if appropriate, in preschool programs.  Furthermore, our outreach specialists serve as a bridge between the Area IV Lead Homeless Liaisons, and the local school building homeless Liaisons.

McLEAN COUNT JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER – SCHOOL PROGRAM

This program serves students while detained at Mclean County Juvenile Detention Center.  Regional Office of Education #17 provides licensed teachers, individualized and differentiated instruction with an effort to encourage a renewed interest in education.  All students are evaluated to determine their academic needs and staff work closely with the students' homeschool to support each students' success.
